When a renowned colorist shared photos of his grading suite packed with five Ideal-Lume desk lamps—each base taking up valuable space on his desk—and DITs requested a more portable, space-saving solution that would fit on their carts, we knew it was time to deliver a streamlined, professional-grade alternative. We removed the base from one of our desk lamps and spent the next 18 months trying to figure out how to power and control it. 

After a lot of wrong turns (and more budget than we’d like to admit), the answer was staring us in the face. By using ubiquitous USB connections as both the power source and stand, we landed on a clean, efficient design without compromising performance. (Early versions featured ¼" tripod mounts and magnets—because, naturally, we had to exhaust every other idea first.)

And yes, we made it super affordable too.

We strongly recommend using a USB port on a hub, power bank, adapter or power strip rather than the USB port on your high-end monitor or laptop. The DIT lamp is built for stability, but let’s not push our luck. :)
